We can finally reveal that the Ali Trophy Final in the Super Middleweight edition of the World Boxing Super Series between George Groves and Callum Smith, will take place on September 28 at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
As well as Groves’ world title, Callum will be fighting for the Muhammad Ali Trophy AND the vacant Ring title in the Super Middleweight division.
Talking exclusively about the announcement, Joe Gallagher explained: “This is it, we now have a date and venue for Callum’s fight vs the recognised number one super middleweight in the world by Ring Magazine & WBA World Champion, George Groves.
“It’a a unique opportunity for him to win The Muhammad Ali Trophy, Ring Champion & World Champion in one night! We’re now looking forward to getting to work now and working towards him achieving his dream.
“The final is going be a great event as WBSS showed in Russia last week & Callum can’t wait to show the world what he can do and become the number 1 in the world.”
Callum believes he can change the super-middleweight hierarchy in Jeddah.
“It has been a long time since my semi-final win over Holzken, but the most important thing to me is that my opponent is George Groves. It means that by the end of September I have the chance to be the WBA champion and the number one super middleweight in the world. I believe I will do it,”
“I am excited to be part of such a big night of boxing. It began with the red carpet treatment in Monaco and will end with more of the same in Jeddah.”
